How to read your GRC III housing assignment: G C 3 - 0191A -1. This assignment reads: Gladding Residence Center Phase 3, 1st Floor, Suite # 191, Room Letter A, Bed space 1. Please note that bed spaces within a room are interchangeable. You and your roommate can decide who gets which bed.

When can 9-month residents move-in?

9-month residents must sign up for a time slot during the move-in dates, August 18-20. Residents will receive time slot sign-up information in their VCU email the week of July 18, 2022.

Check-in tips

  • Follow VCU Police and volunteer instructions to pull up near Gladding Residence Center III (located at 722 W. Cary St.) and unload your vehicle.
  • The student must go inside and check into Gladding Residence Center (entrance located at 711 W Main St.) by themselves.
  • Check-in is located in the main lobby of Gladding Residence Center (entrance located at 711 W Main St.).
  • Students must have their VCUCard or valid state ID to complete check-in.
  • Students will be given a room key.
  • Vehicles cannot stay on the street; they must be moved to a long term parking deck once unloaded (see below).
  • The driver of the vehicle must stay in the vehicle and move the vehicle after unloading, while another person stays with belongings. If not enough guests are present, wait with belongings on the sidewalk until a volunteer arrives to stay with belongings while the driver moves the vehicle.
  • Moving carts will be limited; it is a good idea to bring your own dolly, wagon, or cart. 
  • Elevator lines can extend very far and wait times can be an hour or more at certain times during the day. We recommend using the stairs when possible. You will need to wait in the elevator line each time you plan to use the elevator.

Parking and Unloading

Residents of Gladding Residence Center III should use the Main Street parking deck. Click here to view or print the Monroe Park Campus Parking Facility Map [PDF]. There will be unloading zones and parking signs around each residence hall. Residents are asked to unload their items at the curb and then immediately move their vehicle to the designated parking deck.

  • Bath linens
  • Bed linens for a twin extra-long bed
  • Pots and Pans (for communal kitchens)
  • Dishes and silverware
  • Kitchen utensils (for communal kitchens)
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Desk lamp (without built-in outlets in the base)
  • Dish soap (for communal kitchens)
  • Dishwasher detergent
  • Electric power strips with surge protectors (no extension cords)
  • Flashlight
  • HE Laundry detergent and dryer sheets
  • Isolation and Quarantine Kit items (see item list under “How can residents prepare for isolation and quarantine?” on the Isolation and Quarantine FAQ page)
  • Microwave
  • Non-flammable decorative items
  • Toilet paper
  • Toiletries
  • Toilet plunger
  • Wastebasket
  • Printers
    If you bring a printer, make sure you can turn off the wireless capability. Wireless printers disrupt the wifi signal in the halls. The best choice is to go green and only print at the library when necessary.

Gladding Residence Center III has internet-based TV programming, instead of traditional cable. To learn more about residence hall streaming services visit housing.vcu.edu/help/watch.

Provided Appliances

Full refridgerator is provided in each suite.

Recommendations

We recommend that students contact their future roommate(s) to avoid possible duplication of items prior to arrival on campus. We also recommend that some items be purchased upon arrival. 

What Not To Bring

  • Additional furniture
  • Loft materials (construction of loft beds is prohibited)
  • Cinder blocks to raise beds (only designated bed risers are permitted)
  • Personal air-conditioners
  • Pets
  • Extension cords
  • Shower rod, rings and liners (VCU provides vinyl liners and metal rings, but a decorative shower curtain can be added in front of the vinyl liner if the residents prefer)
  • Items that require a flame to operate or that produce heat, such as candles (including decorative), incense and incense burners, plug-in air fresheners, grills, lanterns and halogen lights.
  • Illegal drugs, fireworks, chemicals, firearms and weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited. Students are expected to abide by the laws of the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Note

All VCU residence halls are completely smoke-free. No smoking will be permitted within residence hall bedrooms, common areas, hallways, stairwells, outdoor walkways, balconies or courtyards, or within 25 feet of all residence hall entrances.

Mattresses in Gladding Residence Center III are twin extra-long (36x80).
